It's a Winter Survival Day in the Motor City with 10 inches of the white stuff coating roads, driveways and sidewalks.
If ice is your concern and de-icing supplies are running low, you can make your own with simple supplies you can find at home.
The old standard is kitty litter, which you can throw on your driveways and sidewalks to help you get some grip as you walk or drive. Sand and coffee grounds work too, according to the Huffington Post.
Vinegar helps to melt ice, according to Mr. Pavement in Pennsylvania. Rubbing alcohol also helps to melt ice and also works on those frozen car locks.
You can make your own de-icing mix with a half gallon on hot water, six drops of dish soap and ¼ cup of rubbing alcohol. You can pour directly from the bucket onto frozen walkways, or put some in a spray bottle and spray your car windows.
