PONTIAC (WWJ) A Flint woman has been arraigned, and is being held on a one-million-dollar bond in connection to the death of her toddler son in Pontiac.

Latonya Shante Thomas, 27, is also charged with child abuse-first degree. She's being held in Oakland County Jail.

Zaveion Thomas was only three years old.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said deputies responded to a 911 call on April 25 at a home on Perry Place, near Perry Street and Pontiac Road, on the report of an unresponsive young child. When they arrived, they found Thomas trying to perform CPR on the toddler. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to the sheriff's office, the autopsy showed injuries consistent with assault. His death was ruled a homicide. The investigation indicated that Thomas had assaulted the child and caused the injuries that led to his death, the sheriff's office said.

"Some of the most horrific cases that we see in law enforcement deal with an abusive death of a child," Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard said in the press release. "It's hard to imagine anyone injuring such a precious young life, and those who abuse a child must be held fully accountable."

Thomas was arrested "without incident" in Flint on Thursday by the Sheriff's Office Fugitive Apprehension Team, the sheriff's office said. She's due back in court on June 25th.
