HIGHLAND TOWNSHIP (WWJ) A 53-year-old Highland Township woman died in a rollover crash in Highland Township, sheriff's officials said.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the crash happened shortly after midnight on Halloween (Friday, October 31) on Harvey Lake near East Wardlow Road. According to authorities, the woman was driving her 2014 Chevrolet Equinox southbound on Harvey Lake when the vehicle crossed the centerline and veered off the road.
"It continued through a ditch and struck a culvert, causing it to vault and overturn," sheriff's officials said.
Deputies responded and found the vehicle lying on its passenger side in a driveway.
The woman told deputies she could not exit her vehicle. A passenger, her 30-year-old son, was outside of the small SUV to search for their dog.
Paramedics attempted to extricate the woman from the SUV, during which she became unresponsive and had no pulse. Despite first responders' attempts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The woman was identified as Lisa Dawn LaPearl.
According to sheriffs' officials, neither LaPearl nor her son were wearing a seatbelt. It's unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors.
The Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine her cause of death. The Sheriff's Office Reconstruction Unit will investigate.
