SOUTHFEI:D (WWJ) -- A person of interest is now in custody as police investigate the murder of a woman at a Southfield home.
Just before midnight Sunday, officers responded to a home on Bainbridge Dr., in a neighborhood in the area of 13 Mile Rd. and Southfield Rd.
"Southfield Police were called when they found a female who died at the scene from a gunshot," WWJ Newsradio 950's Charlie Langton reported.
Police have identified the victim — an adult woman — but they're not releasing her name or other details at this time.
Police said the suspect and the victim knew each other, so this was not a random crime, but "an isolated incident."
Monday afternoon, the Southfield PD issued an update saying that a
person of interest was taken into custody after "tremendous investigative follow-up" by responding officers, detectives, SPD’s Tactical Crime Suppression Unit, Oakland County Auto-Theft Taskforce, and the FBI-Oakland County Gang and Violent Crime Taskforce.
Once the investigation is complete, police said the case will be forwarded to the Oakland County Prosecutor's Office for a charging decision, and more information will be released.
