DETROIT (WWJ) – A woman is in critical condition after being ejected from an SUV when she slammed into a Jeep pulling a boat trailer on the Southfield Freeway in Detroit.

The crash happened around 8:15 p.m. Monday near 8 Mile Road when the 30-year-old Detroit woman was "driving at a high rate of speed" in a GMC Yukon and hit the back of the Jeep, Michigan State Police officials said in an update Tuesday.

When she hit the trailer, she was ejected from the SUV and landed on the freeway, near the 8 Mile exit. She was taken to the hospital and listed in critical condition.

The Jeep, meanwhile, collided with a Subuaru. The driver of the Jeep was not hurt, officials said.

During the investigation the driver of the Subaru, a 50-year-old Oak Park man, was found to be impaired and was arrested at the scene.

The freeway was closed for several hours while crews worked to clean up debris that spilled onto the freeway after the pontoon boat had overturned.

The case is still under review by prosecutors. Authorities did not say whether the woman driving the GMC may face charges.

"This is just another example of the poor driving decisions we are seeing on our roads daily." MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said in a tweet. "In this case not only was a speeding driver involved, it resulted in a crash that revealed an impaired driver. Think about what you are doing behind the wheel."
