DETROIT (WWJ) — Michigan State Police officials are reminding drivers to wear their seatbelts after a woman was seriously injured in a crash early Thursday morning.
The crash happened around 2 a.m. on southbound I-75 near Schaefer in Southwest Detroit, according to MSP.
A 36-year-old woman from Taylor was driving a Chevy Traverse "at a high rate of speed" when she slammed into the back of a semi trailer, officials said.
The woman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, had to be removed from the SUV by Detroit fire personnel. She was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
"This is another example of the preventable crashes we are seeing on our roads." MSP First Lt. Mike Shaw said on X. "Excessive speed combined with no seatbelt use are two risky driving behaviors we are seeing way too much. Slow down and buckle up!"
Authorities have not released any other information about the crash.
The semi driver was not injured in the crash.
