Woman rescued through window of burning Washtenaw County home, fire crews unable to save pair of dogs

Authorities managed to rescue a woman trapped inside her burning Washtenaw County home earlier this week, but her two dogs were lost in the flames that also destroyed the house.

YPSILANTI TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Authorities managed to rescue a woman trapped inside her burning Washtenaw County home earlier this week, but her two dogs were lost in the flames that also destroyed the house.

According to the Ypsilanti Township Fire Department, fire crews responded to the home in the the 7000 block of Textile Road on Wednesday, May 17th, around 1:30 a.m. on a report of a housefire that had trapped a woman and her two dogs inside.


When fire crews arrived at the scene, they found deputies with the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office helping the woman get out of the engulfed home through a window.

Officials said the fire had consumed the entire house with flames shooting through the roof. The blaze was so involved that crews who tried to enter the house were pushed back by the flames.

The two dogs trapped in the home were unable to be rescued and died in fire.

The woman was taken to a local hospital, but the extent of her injuries and her currently condition are unclear.

Authorities are still investigating what caused the home to go up in flames. The house was deemed a total loss with an estimated $550,000 worth of damage done to the home and its contents.
