Woman convicted of assault with intent to murder after leaving victim with 14 stab wounds sentenced to 10-30 years

(WWJ) A Clinton Township woman has been sentenced after being convicted of assault with intent to murder in a knife attack on her boyfriend.

Jennifer Hayes, 30, was sentenced to 10.5 to 30 years for a single count of assault with intent to murder. Hayes was convicted on Nov. 21.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office said on July 3, 2024, Hayes stabbed her boyfriend multiple times with two knives, causing him life-threatening injuries.The victim was sleeping in their Clinton Township home when the attack began. He suffered 14 stab wounds, including one to the side of his neck.

It took at least four hours for a neighbor to discover the man. He was taken to a local hospital where he underwent life-saving treatment. The Prosecutor’s Office said he continues to receive medical and therapeutic treatment for the lasting effects from the incident.

“Today’s sentence reflects the seriousness of this defendant’s actions and the lasting harm caused to the victim,” Prosecutor Peter Lucido said. “Violent crime will not be tolerated in Macomb County, and my office remains committed to holding offenders fully accountable under the law. Our mission is, and will continue to be, to protect the public and ensure the safety of our communities.”

Hayes has also been ordered to have no contact with the victim, either directly or indirectly, while she serves her sentence. She was ordered to pay the victim restitution under the Crime Victim’s Rights Act..
