DETROIT (WWJ) – An investigation is underway after a woman stabbed another woman during a road rage incident on a Detroit freeway Thursday afternoon.
Michigan State Police were called to the westbound express lanes of I-96 under the Southfield Freeway shortly before 3 p.m. after getting calls of an assault in progress on the side of the freeway.
As troopers were on their way to the scene, callers told dispatchers that one of the people involved in the incident had stabbed the other.
When troopers showed up, the woman was "bleeding profusely" from her left arm due to a stab wound, MSP officials said. Troopers applied a tourniquet on her upper left arm, which slowed the bleeding until EMS arrived and took her to the hospital.
The woman's condition was not clear Thursday night.
Authorities say the preliminary investigation revealed the incident stemmed from a road rage incident somewhere off the freeway and continued onto I-96, where the suspect eventually rear-ended the victim's car.
She then pulled over near the Southfield Freeway and the suspect pulled in front of her and got out. The two women then got into an argument on the side of the freeway and it eventually turned physical and the suspect stabbed the victim, according to MSP.
The victim was unsure of the exact vehicle the suspect was driving, but believes it may have been a Nissan or Toyota. possibly light blue or light green driven by a Black woman. No other description of the suspect was given.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or knows something about it is asked to call police.
