(WWJ) There's a shortage of Santa's helpers in Frankenmuth, Michigan, as labor problems plaguing businesses nationwide are now impacting the self-proclaimed "World's Largest Christmas Store."
Management at Bronner's Christmas Wonderland says the store has been struggling to hire enough workers over the age of 18 to handle both floor sales and online orders.
Personnel Manager Crissy Dutcher told Mid Michigan Now that they are in desperate need of more adults to work at Bronner's, in anticipation of a busy 2022 holiday season.
High-schoolers were on the team this past year, but state labor laws limit the amount of hours they can work, she noted. "We get tons and tons of orders. If we don't have enough staff to fulfill them, it makes it very difficult to get this product out to them," Dutcher said, in an interview with Flint-area TV station WEYI.
Dutcher said in order to fill open positions the company is relaxing some of its policies, such as allowing some flexibility with hours and start times for parents who need to drop off or pick up their kids.
According to a recent Mercer survey of more than 300 U.S. employers conducted over the past four weeks, 48% ranked labor shortages as a significant issue, and another 41% said it’s a moderate problem.
For those interested in a job at Bronner's, applications can be filled out online beginning May 1. Visit this link to apply. Application will not be available in the store.
