EAST LANSING (WWJ) – A young Oxford man has been identified as the victim of a fatal hit-and-run crash near a Michigan State University dorm over the weekend.
Salvino Vackaro, 20, was killed in the crash, which happened around 1 a.m. Sunday near the Brody dormitory complex, according to East Lansing Police.
Authorities have arrested one person in connection with the crash, though their name has not been released and no charges had yet been filed, as of 3 p.m. Monday.
Vackaro, who was not a student at MSU, was among a group of people crossing the street near Michigan Avenue and University Drive. The driver of the car involved in the crash fled the scene.
Police used a canine unit to track the driver, according to WLNS. It is not clear if drugs or alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash.
Officers initially responded to the scene after getting reports of shots fired in the area, but then learned it was in fact a hit-and-run, according to WLNS.
