DETROIT (WWJ) -- An Ypsilanti woman has been charged with murder for allegedly shooting a woman at a Detroit home, while a man has been charged with running down the alleged killer with his car.
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office on Tuesday released details of the cases against 44-year-old Shawanda Woods of Ypsilanti, and 36-year-old Leandre Devon Love of Detroit.
Prosecutors said police got a call at around 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, about shots fired at a residence in the 15600 block of Edmore Drive, near 8 Mile Rd. and Gratiot Ave.
Police arrived at the home to find 53-year-old Phebian Williams in the kitchen, suffering from a gunshot wound to her neck. EMS arrived and the victim, a Detroit resident, was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is alleged, according to prosecutors, that Woods and Williams got into a "verbal altercation" during what police called a "gathering" at the home, before the situation escalated.
That's when Woods allegedly pulled out a handgun and fatally shot Williams.
In a related case, Love is charged with assaulting Woods outside the Detroit Police Department's 9th Precinct that same evening.
According to investigators, Woods fled scene after the shooting, and drove to the nearest police station.
It's alleged that Love followed her to the precinct, where he intentionally hit her with his vehicle when she got out of her car.
Police found the injured woman lying in the road in front of the building, in the 11100 block of Gratiot Ave. She was treated for her injuries and arrested.
Woods was arraigned in 36th District Court last Wednesday on one count of Second-Degree Murder, and one count of Felony Firearm. She was ordered held without bond, and was remanded into custody in the Wayne County Jail.
Love has been charged with Assault with Intent to Murder and Felonious Assault. He was arraigned last Wednesday and given a $100,000 personal bond.
Love will be back in court for a Probable Cause Conference scheduled for October 26.
Woods' next scheduled court appearance is a Probable Cause Conference set for Nov. 1.
Officials did not say how Love is connected to Woods or Williams, or what the initial argument between the two women was about. Prosecutors said more facts and evidence will be presented during future court proceedings.
