A 10-year-old boy with a known history of sleepwalking left his home overnight and was found dead in a nearby pond the next day, authorities confirmed.

Jackson Georgari was reported missing early Thursday, July 9, 2026, after wandering from his residence in the Briarcliff Village area. Kansas City police, along with multiple agencies including fire departments and search teams with K-9 units and drones, conducted an extensive search. His body was discovered around 12:30 p.m. in a pond roughly a mile from home.

First responders attempted resuscitation, but Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner will determine the official cause, but police say there is no indication of foul play. This is considered a standard death investigation.

Jackson’s family shared that he had sleepwalked before, including incidents in San Diego and locally near his school. He did not know how to swim. The family recently moved to the area.

The tragedy has shaken the community, with neighbors and local pastors offering support and prayers. It serves as a sobering reminder of the risks associated with sleepwalking in children, prompting calls for greater awareness and safety measures like door alarms or monitoring.

Jackson was a fifth-grade student described by loved ones as kind and energetic. No funeral details have been released.
