More than 63,000 baby swings that were marketed and designed for infant sleep are being recalled because they could pose a suffocation risk.

The recall involves Jool Baby's Nova Baby infant swings that were sold in Walmart stores and online at multiple retailers, including Target, Amazon and Babylist, from November 2022 through November 2023 for about $150.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the swings pose a suffocation risk if used for infant sleep because they have an incline angle greater than 10 degrees, which is not permitted under CPSC's Infant Sleep Products Regulation and the Safe Sleep for Babies Act. The swings also fail to meet mandatory warning requirements, the CPSC said.

The recalled swings have a manufacture date from June 2022 through September 2023, which can be found on the sewn-in warning label on the back of the swing's seat. The design features a round aluminum base with music buttons on the front, a metal seat frame, a cloth seat with restraints and a headrest, and a canopy with hanging toys.

No reports of injuries related to the recall have been received, the CPSC said.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled swings for sleep, and contact Jool Baby to receive a free repair kit.

"You can continue using the Nova Swing to help keep your baby entertained and engaged," Jool Baby said in a statement. "However, if your baby falls asleep while in the swing, remove baby and place on a firm, flat surface such as a crib or bassinet."

"Using the Nova Swing or any product with an angle above 10 degrees is not safe for sleep," the company added.

Approximately 3,500 infants die from sleep-related deaths annually in the US, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The Safe Sleep for Babies Act was updated in 2023 to ban inclined infant sleepers and crib bumpers, which have been linked to hundreds of deaths. The new federal rule requires products marketed or intended for infant sleep to meet a safety standard limiting the incline of sleepers to 10 degrees or lower.
