A convenience store clerk turned the tables on an armed thief last weekend in southeast Texas when he pulled a firearm from behind the register and shot at the would-be robber, according to local officials.
The suspect in the incident can be seen in security footage walking into a WB Food Mart on Sunday, before pulling out a handgun and firing it into the ceiling, the Sugar Land Police Department shared in a press release.
The man can then be seen in the footage pointing the gun at the clerk, demanding that he remove the money from the register.

Police shared that the clerk responded to the attempted robbery by grabbing a gun behind the counter. As the clerk grabbed his weapon, the robber opened fire, and police said that in self-defense, the clerk returned fire at the suspect before he fled the scene.
“The suspect fired a final round toward the clerk before running away,” the department shared in its release.
The department also said neither the suspect nor the clerk is believed to have been injured. This is due to a “bullet-proof enclosure surrounding the register where the clerk was working.”
The suspect has not yet been arrested, and the department shared that anyone with information should contact the local Crime Stoppers at 231-342-TIPS.
He was described by police as a Black man in his 20s. Police say he was last seen wearing black pants, a black hoodie, and a white T-shirt.
