CNN’s chief data analyst Harry Enten took a deep dive into President Donald Trump’s net approval ratings on immigration ... and in his estimation they ranged from "bad to just downright terrible."
Enten made the media rounds in the last day to highlight a significant drop in Trump's net approval rating, especially with Hispanics, which went from -2 in February to -26 in June. Enten on Monday used just one word to sum up Americans’ views on Donald Trump’s handling of immigration.
“Oof!” he said.
“The American people have turned against President Donald Trump on what was his best issue,” Enten added. This comes on the heels of news that 79% of Americans now believe immigration is a good thing, a stark reversal of the way many felt when Trump was campaigning on the basis of Joe Biden's "open borders." MORE ON THAT.
Enten pointed out that Immigration and Customs Enforcement's net approval rating dropped from 0 to -17 last month.
In another blow, Enten says Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” is historically unpopular with the American public.
“They think it’s awful. They think it’s horrible,” he told CNN’s Omar Jimenez on Sunday. “And, to quote our colleague Charles Barkley, ‘terrible, terrible, terrible.’”
Overall, Enten shared five recent polls that show the sentiment on the president's budget bill is underwater by between 19 and 29 points. Enten said, “This one is in the history books, and for all of the wrong reasons as far as the American public is concerned.”
