Just two weeks left until Thanksgiving day. The centerpiece of your holiday meal won't cost as much, but much of the rest of it will cost more.

Louisiana Ag Commissioner Dr. Mike Strain says turkey lovers will benefit from a glut of gobblers.

"Because of an oversupply of turkey, the turkey has come down," said Strain. "The price of turkey has actually went down about nine percent."

But, a lot of the things we like to serve with that turkey are more expensive this year.

"Ham prices, they're up about 5.2 percent, green beans, they're up about nine percent," said Strain, "Pumpkin prices, for canned pumpkins, are up about 30 percent. Potatoes are up about eight percent."

Strain says you may be able to find bargains on Louisiana sweet potatoes. Overall, he says people planning on a dinner for ten should budget around $6.50 to $7 per person.

"You can expect to spend between $65 and $70 on the Thanksgiving feast," said Strain.

The reason prices are up? Increased cost of doing business. Strain says the drought this year won't show up in food prices until next year.
