A New Orleans waitress found herself rolling three lucky 7's – not at the casino but in her tipjar. Now that cold, hard cash will help some churchgoers keep their cool this summer.
Ava Guan is a waitress at Hoshun, and after serving a customer sushi and duck on Saturday, she brought him the bill, totaling $63.
When she collected the money, she found herself staring at a total several times larger than the bill. The customer had left her a $777 tip and written the words "take the night off" on the bill.
That customer was local businessman Abdul Hamideh, and he chose that specific sum because he believed that number to be lucky.
As soon as Guan saw the money, she knew what to use it for. Earlier that day, she had given $300 to the Olive C. church on David Drive in Metairie to put towards a new air conditioner, but they were still far short of the total needed.
But Hamideh's generosity changed that.
"This is what they call God doing miracles," Alex Yang of the Olive C. church told NOLA.com. "We think God has sent this gentleman to tell her that Christ is here and in control."
