When you think about wild turkey what's the first thing that springs to mind? OK, what's the second?
Here's a third option: Wild turkeys have taken over the peaceful haven of downtown Charlevoix lately. It's gotten so wild that Police Chief Gerard Doan says a tom turkey got aggressive and jumped on the backs of a few people.
His excuse is that it's mating season.
"I've encouraged people not to feed then," Doan said, adding that some have gotten into the routine of heading downtown for food and that's contributing to the problem.
The city has also encouraged people to remove bird feeders.
What to do if you're the intended victim of a turkey takedown? Make loud noises to scare them away, officials advise.
Meanwhile, conservation officers are monitoring the fowl situation.
