While Isaac Paredes basks in the glow of being named AL Player of the Week, it's one setback after another for Austin Meadows.

Just when he was ready to begin a rehab assignment after a bout with COVID, the Tigers outfielder landed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with strains in not one but both of his Achilles.

This comes after Meadows missed three weeks earlier this season due to vertigo, which was brought on by an inner-ear infection. He returned to play just seven games before his positive COVID test.

He will enter July having played 36 just games for his new team after the Tigers acquired him from the Rays in exchange for Paredes at the end of spring training.

Meadows, who blasted 60 homers over 2021 and 2019, has zero so far for Detroit. Paredes, who hit two homers over parts of two seasons with the Tigers, has 10 so far for Tampa, including three in one game last week. He also has a .927 OPS.

Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said last weekend that Meadows would start playing rehab games with Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday. Instead, it will be at least another 10 days before he's back on the field.
