Jessica was a first-time Olympian and competed as a member of the U.S. equestrian jumping team with her horse, Don Juan van de Donkhoeve, a 12-year-old Belgian Warmblood stallion.
It was a nail-biting competition for the team, along with viewers, as the United States tied with Sweden after France was disqualified. France’s disqualification forced a jump-off between the U.S. and Sweden, which ended in Sweden winning gold.
“A week I’ll never forget,” Jessica posted on social media following her silver-medal win. “So grateful for the experience of a life time with the most incredible teammates, horses, and support system. Thank you to everyone who made this dream a reality and thank you Tokyo!”
Jessica’s presence at the Tokyo games drew a large crowd as she prepared to compete. Reports revealed many members of her father’s Japan-based Facebook group gathered outside the equestrian arena, which was closed to spectators as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Jessica also competed in the individual competition earlier in the week, but did not place after failing to qualify for the individual jumping finals.
