The Lions have released cornerback Cam Sutton, a day after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The club announced the move Thursday afternoon. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office announced on Wednesday that Sutton, 29, is wanted in Florida for Domestic Battery by Strangulation stemming from an incident that occurred in the early-morning hours of March 7. Police have since been unable to contact Sutton, whose whereabouts are reportedly unknown.
He is considered at large.
Sutton signed a three-year, $33 million deal with the Lions last offseason. He started all 20 games last season, including the playoffs, but struggled as the team's No. 1 corner. He has two years and $21 million in salary remaining on his contract.
The allegation against Sutton was originally relayed as Aggravated Battery - Domestic Violence, until updated by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday.
