The Red Wings took a flier on Jacob Bernard-Docker this season for close to the league minimum. They're keeping him around and giving him a raise.

Detroit has signed Bernard-Docker to a two-year, $3.2 million extension that almost doubles his $875,000 salary this season. The 25-year-old defenseman, who was set to be a restricted free agent this offseason, is now under contract through the 2027-28 season.

Bernard-Docker has played mostly in a third-pair role this season. A right-hand shot, he has four assists and a plus-5 rating in 55 games, averaging 15 minutes of ice time per night.

With Bernard-Docker under contract, the Red Wings have secured most of their current defensive corps through at least next season. The only notable outlier is Simon Edvinsson, who's poised to get a nice payday as a restricted free agent. Travis Hamonic is a pending unrestricted free agent and unlikely to be back.
