Jared Goff was drafted first overall. He's been to three Pro Bowls and played in the Super Bowl. He's closing in on 30,000 passing yards in his eighth NFL season.
And he's still one of the more unheralded quarterbacks in the game. For whatever reason, Goff doesn't seem to get the national respect his numbers warrant.
Here's a national voice to weigh in. Asked during a Twitter Q&A to name the most underrated player in the NFL, Joe Buck immediately pointed to the Lions quarterback.
Buck might be guilty of some recency bias here, having called the Lions' Monday Night Football win over the Raiders in Week 8. But that wasn't even Goff at his best. While he threw for 272 yards and a touchdown, he also threw a pick six.
Goff was certainly at his best last week when he went 23-33 for 333 yards, two touchdowns and no picks in the Lions' 41-38 win over the Chargers. He has a passer rating of 99.1 on the season, eighth in the NFL between Justin Herbert and Lamar Jackson -- both of whom are considered stars.
Goff is also fourth in the NFL in yards per game (278.6) and sixth in yards per attempt (7.6).
Underrated? Depends who you ask.
