(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The G.O.A.T keeps setting records.
A game-worn Michael Jordan Bulls jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals sold for a record-breaking $10.1 million at a New York auction on Thursday, Soethby’s Auction House announced.
Jordan wore the jersey in Game 1 of the Finals and would end up being one of his final games as Bull in the season known as “The Last Dance,” made popular thanks to the 2020 ESPN docuseries. Soethby’s said the #23 red visiting Chicago Bulls jersey fetched more than double than they initially thought a few months ago.
The auction house declared it the most expensive piece of game-worn sports memorabilia ever sold. It surpasses the $9.3 million that the Argentinian soccer great Diego Mardonna wore in the famous 1986 World Cup Quarterfinal match against England, in which he scored the “hand of God” goal.
