The Cowboys' search for their next defensive coordinator is heating up as Josina Anderson of CBS Sports reported Wednesday that former Jets and Bills head coach Rex Ryan interviewed for the team's vacancy this week.

The other candidates who have interviewed for the job this week include former Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, former Commanders head coach Ron Rivera, and Cowboys defensive line coach Aden Durde.

But, there appears to be another name in the mix: Wink Martindale.

In an interview set to air Thursday morning on 105.3 The Fan, former NFL general manager Michael Lombardi was asked who he favors to replace former Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn, who departed for the Commanders head coaching job last week, and Lombardi revealed that he was hearing that the Joneses were attempting to set up an interview with the former Giants defensive coordinator.

"I was under the impression they were going to interview Don (Wink) Martindale, too, from the New York Football Giants. Which they should," Lombardi told Shan, RJ and Bobby at Radio Row in Las Vegas. "I think they've been on the phone with his agent and talking about bringing him in. Whether they do or not, I don't know."

Martindale left the Giants after reportedly reaching a boiling point with head coach Brian Daboll after Daboll fired close members of Martindale’s staff.

Martindale stabilized the defense in New York this season after a disastrous start, but there were rumblings of a rift between he and Daboll during the regular season, and the two sides mutually agreed to part ways once the season was over.
