LSU's Dunne switches to off-campus courses to avoid the distraction of her celebrity

At a certain point, celebrity begets more celebrity, and nothing attracts a crowd like a crowd.

So it’s understandable that, as her star continues to rise, LSU gymnast Olivia Dunne is taking a bit of a step back when it comes to her presence on the school’s Baton Rouge campus.

Dunne recently told Elle Magazine that, while she enjoys “campus life,” she’ll be completing her LSU curriculum online out of an abundance of caution for her safety.

Her fame certainly has its perks. Dunne is the top-ranked female in all of college sports in terms of NIL endorsements, and second in all athletes, regardless of gender, behind only Bronny James, the basketball-playing son of LeBron James.

But celebrity will always have its downsides, and Dunne, who is majoring at LSU in interdisciplinary studies, is finding it harder and harder to blend in.

Her appearance in the stands in Omaha supporting LSU’s baseball team on its national championship-winning journey drew fans from all over the stadium asking for her autograph.

And a rowdy bunch of male fans showed up at the Tiger gymnastic team’s meet in Utah hoping to get Dunne’s attention, even though she wasn’t competing.

This past spring, Dunne became one of the first college athletes to ever appear in the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue alongside fellow LSU star Angel Reese, and she’ll compete in her senior season for LSU Gymnastics in the coming months.
