The Pistons are doing all they can to help the growth of their young core.
A couple weeks after hiring John Beilein in a player development role and a month after extending head coach Dwane Casey's contract, the club is reportedly adding three new assistants to Casey's staff.
Detroit is 'finalizing deals' for Boston's Jerome Allen, Sacramento's Rex Kalamian and ex-Pacers assistant Bill Bayno, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
Allen, who served as head coach at Penn before resigning in 2015 due to a bribery scandal, spent the past six seasons as an assistant under Brad Stevens and interviewed for Boston's head coaching vacancy last week. He's coming to Detroit instead.
Both Kalamian and Bayno worked under Casey during his tenure as head coach of the Raptors.
Kalamian, who also overlapped with Pistons GM Troy Weaver in Oklahoma City and spent this season with the Kings, has nearly 30 years of NBA coaching experience. Bayno was an assistant on the Pacers' staff for the past five seasons and has 14 years of experience.
The trio should help the Pistons' rising core, headlined by 2020 first-round picks Killian Hayes, Saddiq Bey and Isaiah Stewart, take the next step. Detroit will also add a top-six pick in this year's draft.
According to Wojnarowski, the Pistons are also nearing a new deal with current assistant Sean Sweeney.
