Red Wings deal Namestnikov to Stars for draft pick

Steve Yzerman squeezed in one more move ahead of the NHL's 3 p.m. trade deadline.

The Red Wings have dealt forward Vladislav Namestnikov to the Stars for a 2024 fourth-round pick, the club announced Monday.

Namestnikov, a pending unrestricted free agent, had 13 goals and 25 points in 60 games this season for Detroit. He signed a two-year, $4 million deal with the club in 2020 and could be a candidate to return this summer.

Namestnikov bounced between the Wings' top three lines this season, at one point playing a prominent role on the first unit with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond. He was also one of the team's primary penalty killers and a consistent source of energy up front.

His departure comes about an hour after Yzerman sent defenseman and fellow pending UFA Nick Leddy to the Blues for two NHL players and a draft pick and a day after he dealt defenseman Troy Stecher to the Kings for a seventh-round pick.

The Wings enter the final 20 games of the season with seven losses in their last eight games, slated to miss the playoffs for the sixth year in a row.
