Red Wings trade Nemeth to Avalanche for draft pick

The Red Wings made their first move of trade deadline season on Friday night.

The club dealt defenseman Patrik Nemeth to the Avalanche in exchange for a 2022 fourth-round pick. The Wings are retaining 50 percent of Nemeth's prorated $3 million salary.

Nemeth, 29, had eight points in 39 games this season for Detroit and is set to be a free agent this summer. His playing time was down considerably from last season, from 22:04 per game to 18:24.

Steve Yzerman and the Wings now have three picks in the fourth round of next year's draft, to go along with six picks in the first three rounds this year. He'll look to add to that stash by trading more veterans before Monday's 3 p.m. deadline.
