Steph Curry already had four NBA championship rings, two MVPs and a Finals MVP – but there was one trophy that had eluded his grasp throughout the years: a trophy from the American Century Golf Championship.
On Sunday, Steph finally got his hands on the hardware.
Thanks to an epic weekend that included a hole-in-one and a pressured-packed putt on the final hole, Curry won the vaunted celebrity golf championship in Lake Tahoe. Curry needed to sink an 18-foot putt for an eagle on the 18th green and he pulled it off, running off the course to celebrate with his wife Ayesha.
Steph has been in a lot of high-pressure athletic situations before, but this was a little bit different than the NBA Finals.
“I have more time to think about it in this scenario,” Curry said. “On the (basketball) court it happens a lot faster. But just being able to lock into the moment and knowing what the stakes were, accepting it. I’ve always dreamt of a situation like this on an 18th green, in front of a crowd like that, to make the putt. You just stick to the routine and have so much confidence in yourself – you live with the results. Thankfully it went in which is insane. Been playing in this thing for almost a decade. To know that I finally got a win it’s pretty special.”
But Curry’s 2023 tournament will likely be remembered for his hole-in-one Saturday on No. 7, when he recorded an ace from 152 yards out before sprinting down the fairway in celebration.
“That was my second one ever,” Curry told NBC Sports about the hole-in-one. “I’m locked in right now, but to do it on this hole was unbelievable. Wow.”
Is there anything Curry can’t do?
