Two Trump campaign staffers who attended Saturday's rally in Tulsa have tested positive for coronavirus, the campaign confirmed Monday.
The campaign sought to downplay concern by pointing out that the two individuals wore masks during the rally. A few hours before the rally, the campaign had announced that six workers had tested positive for the potentially-deadly virus.
In reference to the latest announcement, Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh said in a statement, "After another round of testing for campaign staff in Tulsa, two additional members of the advance team tested positive for the coronavirus. These staff members attended the rally but were wearing masks during the entire event. Upon the positive tests, the campaign immediately activated established quarantine and contact tracing protocols."
Trump rally attendees were not required to wear a face covering or practice social distancing.
Attendees had to sign a document agreeing that they would not sue the campaign if they contracted coronavirus, acknowledging the "inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 exists in any public place where people are present."
The rally was believed to be the largest indoor event in the U.S. since the pandemic began.
