The Louisiana Department of Health Friday afternoon reported two more COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the total number of state residents killed by the disease to twelve.
"The deaths of a 38-year-old Catahoula Parish resident and a 77-year-old Jefferson Parish resident were reported today," the department said in its statement. "Both had underlying medical conditions. "
A thirteenth death involved a Mississippi resident who sought treatment in a St. Tammany Parish hospital.
There are 479 total cases of coronavirus in Louisiana as of this morning's report. Patients come from 25 of the 64 parishes in the state.

While older individuals and those with underlying medical conditions are at greater risk, everyone can become exposed to COVID-19 and must be vigilant to protect their health. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, some of the serious chronic health conditions include heart disease, diabetes and lung disease.

- Routinely cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces
- Avoiding close contact with others
- And staying home if you are sick
