A man is dead and his suspected killer is in the hospital with a gunshot wound, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office revealed today. The incident happened lat last night in the 600-block of N. Elm.

"Around 11:50 pm last night, deputies were dispatched to a report of gunshots in the area and located 2 gunshot victims," according to sheriff's office spokesman Captain Jason Rivarde. "One male, later determined to be the suspect, was suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the knee, and the other male, the victim, was suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound to the groin."

The latter died this morning in the hospital, according to the sheriff's office.

The suspect will be booked with second degree murder once released from the hospital, officials said.

Sheriff's officials say the investigation found that the suspect shot the victim multiple times after both men had been involved in a series of disturbances throughout the day Tuesday.

Authorities say anyone who has information should call the JPSO Homicide Section at (504) 364-5300, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111 or toll free at (877) 903-7867 (STOP). Callers to Crimestoppers do not have to leave their names and may be eligible for a cash reward for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.
