NOPD's 1980s era records system, MOTION, is now a thing of the past. It has been replaced by CASTNet.
Coming on line last month, CASTNet is a modern software system capable of querying arrest, prosecution and court records from multiple local and statewide databases.
CASTNet, can access information from multiple local and statewide criminal justice databases with a single query. Under the old system, officers could only see if an individual had been arrested but not what happened after the arrest.
CASTNet provides more timely and accurate warrant information by pulling directly from New Orleans Municipal & Traffic Court records rather than requiring court staff to manually enter and rescind warrants. Additionally, CASTNet pulls data from Jefferson Parish Sheriff Office’s ARMS system, which in turn consolidates data from several surrounding jurisdictions.
“CASTNet deepens the capabilities of officers in the field by connecting them with information from multiple criminal justice agencies. It is a great example of how we can work together across agencies to improve the efficiency of the system as a whole," said Criminal Justice Commissioner Tenisha Stevens.
