The New Orleans Fire Department will add 23 new recruits to its force.
The recruit class will graduate this Friday, however, at a news conference Tuesday, City of New Orleans spokesperson Beau Tidwell said due to COVID restrictions there will not be the typical graduation ceremony.
“Unfortunately families and the public will not be able to attend at this time,” Tidwell said. “However, we are going to try once conditions improve and change we will probably have an event later to mark these men’s and women’s beginning of service.
This comes after the NOFD and New Orleans Mayor Cantrell were locked in heated negotiations over firefighter’s pay and the need to hire more firefighters.
