Accident at highway junction kills elderly NOLA man

A 71-year-old man was apparently struck and killed by the driver of a pick up late last night in St. Tammany Parish.  

The incident occured on LA-21 near the LA-59 just past 11:30pm.  

The victim has been identified as 71-year-old William Asprodites of New Orleans.  

Asprodites was reportedly walking in the northbound lane of LA-21 when he was struck by a Ford F150 pick up travelling north on the highway.    

According to a report, Asprodites was wearing dark clothing at the time he was struck.  

Asprodites sustained serious injuries and later succumbed to those injuries at an area hospital.  

As part of the ongoing investigation by St. Tammany Parish Sheriffs, toxicology is pending on Asprodites performed by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office. 

The driver of the F150 was properly restrained and uninjured in the crash. 

Also, the driver of the F150 provided Troopers with a breath sample which detected no evidence of alcohol. 

The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.
