Much of eastbank Plaquemines are gone pecans

While Marco is only a tropical storm, there could be storm surges in coastal areas susceptible to east winds -- which is why the eastbank of Plaquemines Parish was told to evacuate. Parish president Kirk Lepine says there has been a lot of compliance.

"I spoke with the councilmember on  the eastbank, and he said at least 75 percent of the people have evacuated," said Lepine. "I think people have heeded to our warning and it's just getting out to higher ground."

There's also a mandatory evacuation on the westbank of Plaquemines Parish from the Phillips refinery, south through Venice.

Evacuations have also been ordered in Grand Isle, Jean Lafitte, lower Lafitte, Crown Point, and Barataria.

Lafourche Parish has ordered mandatory evacuations south of the Leon Theriot Flood Gate and in Port Fourchon.

Evacuations are voluntary in Venetian Isles, Lake Catherine, and Irish Bayou in New Orleans.
