People in the town of Abita Springs need to boil their water before drinking or using it.

The town’s Public Works director says an electrical issue at the town’s well prevented the water tower from automatically refilling, and triggering a Precautionary Boil Water Advisory.

This Advisory will affect the entire Town of Abita Springs. The estimated time for this advisory is 24 to 36 hours to allow for testing to occur. You are advised to boil water for consumption for 1 full minute after it has been brought to a rolling boil.

Officials say the advisory is precautionary only and workers will get samples to a lab for testing, first thing this morning and hope to have the results back within 24 hours.
