A man on the lam for more than a month from a work-release facility in Alabama was tracked down and captured in Mandeville.  Chris Dwayne Williams, serving a 20-year sentence for manslaughter at the Childersburg Work Release Center, walked away July 11th from an assigned jobsite in Shelby County, Alabama.

On the loose for more than month, Williams was located more than 350 miles southwest of Childersburg in Mandeville.  He was arrested on Monday.  St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence on Rollins Street, north of Mandeville, after receiving information Williams was hiding there.

When deputies arrived at the home, Williams was present along with two acquaintances.  Williams attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended after a brief foot chase.  He provided deputies with a fake name upon capture.

Williams is facing fresh charges of resisting an officer by flight, refusing to provide correct identification, and misrepresentation during booking.

Two others at the home were also taken into custody:  Virgil Wilkerson of Cordova, Alabama; and Tara Williams of Mandeville.

Wilkerson and Williams admitted to harboring the fugitive and assisting him with utilizing an alias to conceal his identity.

Both were arrested and booked the St. Tammany Parish Jail as accessories after the fact, among other charges.

Williams was also booked as a fugitive from the Alabama Department of Corrections.  He will be extradited back to Alabama at a later date.
