Father Sokol is the name of a priest added to the New Orleans Archdiocese roster of priests suspected of sexually abusing children in November 2018.

Father Sokol is identified as a member of the Salesian Order of Don Bosco.

The problem is there are two Father Sokols.

Both Father Sokols worked at different times at the Marrero Hope Haven and Madonna Manor orphanages, both sites of numerous allegations of sexual abuse across years.

Since 2018 Father Alfred Sokol’s name has mistakenly been attached to the abuse roster.

After further research and review, the Father Sokol who should’ve been on the list is Father Joseph Sokol.

The Archdiocese made the correction February 14th.

According to a story in the Times-Picayune/New Orleans Advocate more adjustments were made to the profile of Father Sokol on the abuse roster.

Father Joseph Sokol is suspected of abuse starting in the 1940s—not the 60s-and-70’s as originally entered.

The first suspected allegation was also changed from 2006 to 2010.

They only acted on the mistake after the Salesian order discovered the mixup and notified the diocese.

Of the 57 priests on the original roster from the diocese, only eight were identified as Salesians.

Among the numerous names added to the list since, no other Salesians have been connected.

According to the paper, the diocese did not acknowledge the correction publicly.

Because both Father Sokols are dead.
