New Gallup poll suggests that for the 2nd consecutive year the number of Americans who say they are "extremely" proud to be an American is below 50 percent. One woman said she is as proud as she's ever been.
"And also I am a previous civics and U.S. history teacher so of course I'm a proud American," she said. "I love teaching about our country and I love supporting our country." She said she hopes the younger generation sees how lucky they are to be Americans.
"Absolutely I am extremely proud to be an American and I really don't believe those percentages," this man noted. "I think it's wrong."
This man believes the figure is low because ..."There are miserable and angry people in the world," another man said. "Hopefully that gets better. Life is too short to be that way."
"I'm a proud American," another man told us. "I'm alive, I was born here. It's a great country."
"I'm a proud American and always have been," said another lady who believes there is a reason the poll is so low. "I think they just take things for granted."
This year only 45 percent say they are extremely proud, down from 47 percent last year.
