The Audubon Nature Institute says the zoo will reopen to the public this Wednesday, June 3. Tickets for timed admission will be available for sale on Monday, June 1. Limited tickets are available for each time period and must be purchased in advance.

Zoo members will be able to reserve theirs free of charge.

"The Zoo will be open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the last entry of the day at 3:30 p.m.," Audubon President and CEO Ron Forman announced.

However, upcoming zoo events have been canceled through August 31, including Zoo to Do for Kids. People who purchased tickets should have already received emails about their options, Forman said.

While the zoo has been closed to visitors because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many zoo employees continued to work, caring for the animals. Forman said the zoo and Audubon's other attractions, like the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas and the Audubon Insectarium, have taken a significant financial hit.

"As Audubon prepares to reopen our doors to visitors, our ability to generate revenue is still severely limited," said Forman. "Our facilities are not able to reopen at full capacity, some of our facilities still remain closed, and most of our programs have been halted until future phases of recovery. Since our closure, Audubon has lost an estimated 44% of this year’s self-generated operating revenue, leaving us in an unsustainable position to care for our animals and parks."

Plans for reopening the aquarium and the insectarium have not been announced.
