Parents in Jefferson Parish are sounding off on their kids returning to school classrooms.
You can almost hear relief in this woman’s voice as she talks about her child heading back to class.
“They’re really, like, taking the steps to do whatever they can. And I really don’t want to home school him,” this mother chuckles. “So I’m kinda happy he’s back in school. It really gives me the freedom to go back to work and get my life back.”
Parents we talked to as they exited a big box store in Metairie echoed her relief.
“I’m so glad to have her back at school, it’s great, positive… …I’m absolutely on board with it. I think we need to get back to normal… …I think the kids will be alright, if they have a good system going… …Once we saw them putting in the work, all of my anxieties were put at ease.”
Still, some were skeptical about the return to class.
This woman voiced her concerns about her son:
“When he did the summer enrichment program a lot of kids tested positive. No, I’m not taking the risk, I have a health condition of my own.”
Another woman had this to say, “I’m a little apprehensive about what’s going on. Cause there’s a lot of people there [at schools] and they do mingle! I’m a little bit leery, with all the new cases, it’s kind of scary.”
Still, one woman, who is a Jefferson Parish teacher says she’s enthusiastic about the return of school:
“We have a lot of kids coming back, so we’re excited that they’re coming, can’t wait to see them—it’s been too long!”
Please drive carefully now that school is back in session during your morning and afternoon commutes!
