Not everyone on board with Mayor Cantrell's social media posts on tax liens

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell took to social media to comment on her $95,000 tax lien situation.

On Twitter and Facebook, Cantrell's statement was met with comments that ran the gamut.

While some residents said it was her personal business and expressed support for her, others were more vocally critical, using the admission that the problem has plagued her family for years as a chance to attack the mayor on issues ranging from her handling of the Hard Rock Hotel collapse, accusations of personal financial irresponsibility, and calls for her resignation and removal.

Speaking with WWL-TV at press conference in New Orleans East, Cantrell said "I'm more alligned.  I'm more alligned with the with the citizens that I represent, who are in no way free of challenges."

Cantrell explained this new lien is about IRS fines and penalities as her family struggles to put this recurring problem behind them.  She stated she has hired a tax attorney to help them.

Speaking with WWL-TV, tax professional Bill Nelson said it's likely the tax problem is coming from her husband, who is self-employed and as such money is not withheld.

Cantrell stated if she is going to be judged, "Judge me on my work, and you have a lot of work to judge me on."
