Dogs and cats in Louisiana that are on Santa's nice list are about to be rewarded.
Over 1 in 4 Louisiana pet owners admit spending more on their pets than their partners for Christmas.
That's according to a study done by Innovet Pet of 2,500 pet owners. And, Lee Wakefield, manager of PetSmart on Vets in Metairie, says it's simple mathematics.
"That is not a surprise to me. A lot of people have a lot of pets. Most people have pets have more than one, so that increases how much they're going to spend as opposed to their one partner. You got four dogs, you're probably going to buy treats and stuff like that for four pets as opposed to one person."
And, he says there's plenty to be purchased for the pups and pussycats.
"Oh wow! We have all kinds of holiday stuff. We have holiday toys, stockings, little advent calendars, tons of holiday treats, lots of holiday rawhide."
And, he says folks love to dress to their animals up for the holidays. That's supported by the Innovet survey. It found over one-third of Louisiana pet owners dress their pets in seasonal clothing for Christmas.
Wakefield says they've got plenty of perfect outfits.
"We have the classic little Santa outfit, Mr. & Mrs. Claus costumes, an elf costume, naughty and nice little bandannas...one side says 'naughty,' one side says 'nice.' We actually sold out of the pajama onesies for dogs. But we don't have any ugly Christmas sweaters."
