Media reports say six B-52 bombers from Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City have been deployed to the Indian Ocean as tensions rise in the Middle East following the U-S airstrike that killed an Iranian leader. The reports say the bombers went to Diego Garcia, a British ruled island in the Indian Ocean.

KSLA-TV reports the heavy aircraft were dispatched to the Indian Ocean theatre for possible operations against Iran.

North state congressman Mike Johnson tweeted he is praying for the airmen from Barksdale and all others being deployed.

Praying for our airmen from Barksdale Air Force Base and all others who are being deployed to the Middle East. God bless and protect the defenders of freedom. ----https://t.co/Z6fxtDTtV8

The British airbase at Diego Garcia is a familiar station point for air operations.  The 2001 attack on Afghanistan in response to 9/11 and the operations ahead of the 2003 invasion of Iraq both started from there.

Just last year another half dozen bombers stationed at Diego Garcia when tensions between Iran and Qatar were simmering.  The United States operates out of Diego Garcia since it is out of range of Iranian ballistic missiles.
