Tropical Storm Barry moved within 70 miles of Morgan City today.
"On the forecast track, the center of Barry will approach the central or southeastern coast of Louisiana through tonight and then make landfall over the central Louisiana coast on Saturday," according to an advisory from the National Hurricane Center.
The storm has picked up the pace a little bit, now moving toward the coast at six miles per hour.
"Maximum sustained winds are near 65 mph with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast before landfall, and Barry is expected to be a hurricane when the center reaches the Louisiana coast."
While some computer models have suggested the rains may not be as intense as earlier forecast, the National Hurricane Center is still warning about widespread flooding.
"Barry is expected to produce total rain accumulations of 10 to 20 inches over south-central and southeast Louisiana and southwest Mississippi, with isolated maximum amounts of 25 inches. These rains are expected to lead to dangerous, life threatening flooding."
Federal forecasters are also concerned about the wind pushed water.
