Big losses during pandemic lead to WWII museum layoffs

The National World War II Museum has taken a $25 million hit and is laying off 82 employees, the Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports. It will also leave 40 unfilled positions open.

The museum re-opens Monday, with restrictions and other measures to try and keep visitors safe.

Museum president and CEO Stephen Watson tells the Picayune that they hope to rehire as many people as possible as the recovery progresses.

After Hurricane Katrina, the museum, which hadn't yet expanded across Andrew Higgins Blvd. from its original building, laid off 60 employees.
