WWL afternoon host, Scoot, returns to the radio today for the first time since he was injured in a hit and run crash.
He was walking across the street when a motorcycle slammed into him before fleeing the scene.
"I feel lucky to be alive," Scoot told me as he prepared to get back on the air. "As bad as this is for me, I feel so fortunate."
Scoot says that he was walking across Canal Street at Bourbon a week ago, when a speeding motorcyclist came racing toward him. He says the bike was moving so fast, that he didn't have time to do anything but brace for the impact.
"As soon as I was hit, I had enough sense at that moment to go, 'You son of a bitch hit me! I can't believe it."
Scoot says that's the last thing he remembers before waking up on the street car tracks.
How far did he fly?
"I'm gonna say 40 feet."
He has a couple of stitches, broken bones and other injuries. Scoot says, however, it could have been much worse.
"So many other things could have gone wrong," he said. "I could have had internal injuries."
He also could have hit a pole, another car, a street car or something else. Another car could have also hit him.
The motorcycle driver did not stop to see if he had killed the pedestrian he struck. He just kept going.
Police are searching for the hit and run driver.
Scoot said, "Whoever did this should pay the price."
